Junior Film Fleadh to screen Bernadette Devlin documentary

BERNADETTE: NOTES on a political journey, Lelia Doolan’s documentary on Northern Irish politician and campaigner Bernadette Devlin McAliskey will be shown at the Junior Galway Film Fleadh.

The feature length documentary will be screened in the Town Hall Theatre on Thursday November 8 at 2pm and will be introduced by the director.

Broadcaster and journalist John Bowman has said of Bernadette: “She was not prepared to grow old in an unjust system. At 21, she was a veteran of the Battle of Bogside. Described as an Irish Joan of Arc and a mini-skirted Castro, she won the mid-Ulster bye-election in 1969, the youngest woman ever elected at Westminster. She survived an assassination attempt in 1981 and remains a radical socialist republican.”

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 and www.tht.ie
