Galway city has the State’s second highest compliance rate with the controversial Household Charge, with three out of every four households having paid.
Galway city manager Joe O’Neill yesterday confirmed that more than 20,000 households, or 74 per cent, have now paid the €100 fee.
“I wish to thank each one of them for ensuring that our local services are protected and that the reduction in our local government fund was kept to the minimum,” said Mr O’Neill, who also went on to ask the remaining 26 per cent of households to pay.
“I also urge all of those who have not yet paid to do so without further delay, and avoid additional penalties,” he said.
Payment of the charge and all penalties due can be made online at www.householdcharge.ie, by posting an application form to PO Box 12168, Dublin 1, or in person at City Hall, College Road.
