Spanish-Irish fusion in Árus na nGeal

The connections between Galway and Spain were at their strongest in the 1500s when Galway was a major commercial port and Spanish vessels came here to trade.

There are plenty of people today who are hoping to revive the Galway-Spanish connection and one way of doing this is through music and Christmas celebrations.

Spanish-Irish Galway based trad rock band Alalé - who fuse Irish music with Spanish rhythms - will play Árus na nGael, Dominick Street, tonight at 8pm for the Irish Spanish Integration Society’s Christmas night. There will also be a raffle with spot prices.

The ISIS was established as a focal point for those interested in the Spanish language or culture in Ireland. It will be organising table quizzes, workshops, cultural and linguistic exchanges, and parties for 2009.

All are welcome to the gig, especially those interested in Spanish culture or language. Admission is free. For more information contact [email protected].
