Public lecture on St Mary’s College

St Mary’s College has been a boys secondary school for 100 years and the building itself is one of Galway city’s finest examples of Art Deco.

The college will be the subject of a public lecture to be given by leading local historian Peadar O’Dowd this Monday at 8pm in the Harbour Hotel, Dock Road.

The lecture, entitled The History of St Mary’s College, Galway, will cover aspects of St Mary’s contribution to west of Ireland life since its specific foundation as the diocesan college for Galway in 1912. The lecture will also include a short history of the initial St Mary’s College, which operated in West House off St Helen’s Street, between 1844 and 1849.

The lecture is being organised by the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society. Admission to the lecture is free and all are welcome. See www.gahs.info
