Locations for real time passenger information terminals

The draft locations for the real time passenger information display terminals for Galway city have been announced with various bus stops in Eyre Square and the rest of the city included.

Such information displays have proved popular in Dublin by providing public transport passengers with up-to-the-minute information on bus services.

Displays will be located in Eyre Square; Dublin Road (opposite GMIT, Castlegar Complex, Woodlands, and g Hotel ); Seamus Quirke Rd (Rahoon Road junction and Westside Shopping Centre ); Newcastle Road (UHG main gate ); Knocknacarra (Topaz Filling Station ); University Rd (NUIG main gate ); St Francis Street; Upper Salthill Rd (Waterfront ); Tuam Road (Riverside estate ); Castlepark Road (Sliabh Rua ); and Shangort Road (Joyce’s Supermarket ).

The news has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway West TD Seán Kyne.

“The display terminals use GPS navigation technology to monitor bus locations and estimate their time of arrival at a particular stop,” he said. “The locations provisionally identified will now be further examined in terms of ESB network connectivity and costing with a view to tendering the works involved.”
