Burglars target charity shop

Gardaí have appealed for information following a break-in at the office and shop of the GSPCA in the early hours of Wednesday.

It is understood the burglary occurred at some time between 12 midnight and 3am. The burglars gained entry to the GSPCA shop, located on St Augustine Street in the city, though a front window and stole a safe from the office, located in the same building.

A safe, which contained a small sum of money, was found nearby in the early hours of the morning.

Gardaí carried out a technical examination of the premises yesterday, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The charity’s shop and office remained closed for most of the day following the burglary.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.
