On the Wine Shelf...

Romanico Bodega Teso la Monja Toro 2010 (Independents, €12.99 )

Made by winemaker Marcos Eguren, in Spain’s Toro in Castilla y León, who is also responsible for Sierra Cantabria and Señorío de San Vicente, this 100 per cent Tinta de Toro (synonym for Tempranillo ) is a real charmer that is new to the shelves. With lots of intense raspberry and blackcurrant fruit on the nose, it is richer and plummier on the palate with hints of strawberry. With velvety tannins and a long finish, this is a real star from Spain that is going to be a lot more popular than its current low-low price suggests. Perfect with steak or as an accompaniment to a cheese plate.
