Opel Adam to be launched at Paris Motor Show

Opel’s new baby Adam is set to make its global debut in the fashion capital of the world at the Mondial de l’Automobile ( the Paris Motor Show ) later this month, writes Padraic Deane.

Opel tells us its stand will be a unique display with the Adam very much the focus.

Interactive stations will also be on the stand allowing visitors to create their very own Adam. Based around the three trim levels - Jam (fashionable/colourful ), Glam (elegant/sophisticated ) and Slam (racy/sporty ) - the company says visitors can explore the virtually endless customisation possibilities at the touch of a button.

Opel Ireland says the Adam, which arrives in the Ireland early in 2013, not only breaks new ground in design, but also leads its class in technology - offering features normally only found in higher-end cars. It quotes as a prime example Adam’s top-of-the-range infotainment system ‘My Media’ which integrates the owner’s smartphone with the car making internet-based applications available from the fascia mounted touch screen. The company claims it is unique in segment, the system supports both android and Apple iOS units.

Measuring almost 3.70 metres in length, Opel says this new, chic and agile car is perfect for urban environments. Unlike other rivals, Adam’s look is a retro-based design with a modern and bold styling. Its striking and unique visual of “floating” roof which is visually disconnected from the body allows a perfect execution of a two tone colour combination.

Inside the cabin, Opel says the Adam offers seating for four people who will benefit from a “premium-inspired atmosphere” and a high degree of roominess unusual for a small car.

The Opel Adam will initially be offered with three efficient petrol engines (a 1.2 litre 70bhp, a 1.4 litre 87bhp, and a 1.4 litre 100bhp version ). All powertrains are available with an ecoFLEX technology pack including fuel-saving start/stop technology.
