Galway swimmer David O’Sullivan has been chosen as the recipient of the 2012 BUA Emerging Sports Talent Award.
A member of Galway Swim Club, 16-year-old O’Sullivan is the only Galway swimmer to have qualified for the youth Olympic Festival for the past six years.
O’Sullivan, who boasts several national butterfly and freestyle records, has qualified to represent Ireland at the European Junior Championships. In the longer term he has his sights set on achieving the qualifying time for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016.
The BUA Emerging Sports Talent Award, now in its second year, supports, recognises and develops sporting talent from Galway city and county. O’Sullivan will receive a €12,000 prize package that includes a year’s treatment and training plans, consultations and membership from supporting partners Keith Gildea of Ocean Fitness, Trish Strelioff of Baily Point Physiotherapy, Maeve Gacquin of Maeve Gacquin Nutrition Consulting, Sarah Thornton of Sarah Thornton Personal Training, Dr Aideen Henry of the Galway Clinic, and Niamh Fitzpatrick, sports psychologist.
