• Galwegians RFC's new floodlights will be offically launched and switched on by Mayor Terry O'Flaherty at Crowley Park on Saturday. The Mayor will be joined by Billy Glynn, president of the IRFU and life member of Galwegians.To celebrate the occasion, a full afternoon's activity is lined up, with a range of family entertainment on offer to complete an action-packed day. There will be a series of friendly matches on view throughout the afternoon and evening, with the schedule as follows: 4.30pm u-16 Galwegians v Monivea; 5.15pm Women Galwegians v Connacht Selection; 6pm Over 50 Galwegians v Corinthians Tag; 6,25pm Over 40 Galwegians v Mixed Selection Tag; 7.15pm Galwegians 1st XV v University College Cork.

•The Renmore AFC Academy will start up on Saturday with an open day for boys and girls from 10am to 1pm ( 6-7yrs will train at 10am, 8-9yrs at 11am, and 10-11yrs at 12 noon ). All are welcome. Power Soccer has teamed up with Renmore AFC this season with their coaches adding another dimension to the Saturday morning sessions. Registration forms are available from www.renmoreafc.com Power Soccer will also offer an after school programme on Tuesdays at Renmore AFC Clubhouse. •Aofie McCabe, riding Wineport Star, celebrated a significant victory recently when winning the final of the RDS Young Rider 1.20M competition. The 17-years-old from Kilcogan who rides out of the Galway Equestrian Centre produced a clear and fast round in the final to secure the victory.

• Connacht junior rugby clubs Monivea, Westport, OOLBC, and Ballina will be in action in this year’s Ulster Bank All Ireland Junior Cup. Last season’s beaten finalists Monivea, who narrowly missed out on qualification for the Ulster Bank League at the end of last season will open their cup campaign against former winners Crosshaven.  Westport travel to Kanturk, OLBC are at home to Cooke, while Ballina will entertain Donaghadee.
