City bar leads drive to help dethroned Miss Ireland aims to take on the universe

The Dail Bar is getting behind former Miss Ireland Maire Hughes as she enters the prestigious Miss Universe Ireland competition this November 2 in Dublin. Ms Hughes of Catwalk Models will be representing The Dail Bar and Galway in the Miss Universe Ireland competition run by well-known Irish agent and top model Andrea Roche.

Ms Hughes came into the public eye in a big way when she was deservedly crowned Miss Ireland having been chosen to represent the country in the Miss World competition earlier this year. Sadly for Ms Hughes she was asked to step down from the title fairly swiftly when it was decided that at 25 she was too old to enter the Miss World competition.

According to Ms Hughes, she entered Miss World with the best of intentions and was led to believe her age was not an issue. She was left shocked and saddened to have to step down before she had even had a chance to celebrate her well deserved win. Thankfully, the Miss Universe contest does not have the same age restrictions as Miss World and Ms Hughes’ entry has been welcomed.

Jayne O’Toole, marketing manager for The Dail Bar, speaking on their involvement in this year’s Miss Universe Ireland said: “We are delighted to be coming on board and supporting an entry to this year’s Miss Universe Ireland competition. We could not think of anyone more deserving of the title of Miss Universe Ireland than local girl Maire Hughes and we are delighted she has agreed to come on board and enter as Miss Dail Bar Galway. I can’t think of a better representative for The Dail Bar. She is not only an absolutely stunning girl but also warm and genuine, a truly lovely person who we are proud to get behind and support all the way to the title. We hope the rest of Galway gets behind Maire and shows her the support she deserves. Miss World’s loss will be Miss Universe’s gain.”
