Memorial Cards hold such a wealth of family history and can be of huge interest to genealogists and people tracing their ancestry. The Western Family History Association is currently undertaking a project aims to scan and record the memorial cards.
This work will preserve the records of the dead for family research into the future.
The association is inviting people to bring their memorial cards to an event in Lackagh this Saturday, to have their own family members included in the project.
The event will take place from 2pm to 5.30pm, and people who bring their memorial cards can have them scanned while they wait.
People can also avail of a Pecha Kucha session, a five-minute blitz through sources such as Census, church, civil, and land records. Questions will also be facilitated.
Founded in 1995, the Western Family History Association is a genealogy association based in Galway and covering Galway, Clare, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, and Leitrim.
