Delaney to open Moyne Villa facilities

FAI chief executive John Delaney heads west this weekend to officially open the Moyne Villa Soccer Club in Headford.

Founded in 1977, the club has blossomed over the last decade and now boasts facilities for the entire community. These include a children’s play ground, two grass soccer pitches, and a seven-a-side artificial playing surface which is open to the public.

The club has organised an open day for the community this weekend to celebrate its official opening, which will kick off at 11am.

Throughout the day the club’s 17 under-age teams will play local visiting opposition with the highlight a clash between the Moyne Villa u-18 boys against Home Farm from Dublin at 2.45pm.

After the official opening at 4pm, the Moyne Villa Junior men’s team will play a league game at 5.15pm.

In addition to the football fare, there will be something for all the community with Ireland’s largest bouncing castle and ball pond, face painting for the children, live music, and Galway Bay FM will broadcast live from 3 to 6pm.

A spokesperson for the club, Brenda Molloy, says the day is an opportunity to acknowledge the community involvement in the club and for everyone to enjoy a good day out.
