The Spanish Arch in summer is a natural place of congregation and this week even more so as the medieval landmark will form the backdrop to three open air gigs, each taking place at 9pm.
The series of gigs kicks off tomorrow with an acoustic set from The Notions. The band will play songs from their forthcoming album Hey, Hey, Hey. They have been playing their eclectic music in France, Belgium, England, and America over the last few years.
On Wednesday it’s the turn of Galway’s premiere pop trio The Kanyu Tree. Brothers Shane, Daniel, and Oisín Cluskey always deliver a top live set with their creamy vocal harmonies, slick, soulful pop, and smart white boy funk.
Already the band have notched up a 20 debut single, IMRO Showcase Tour selection, numerous TV and radio appearances, a support slot with I’m From Barcelona, and a 17 gig support tour of Britain with The Saw Doctors playing to capacity crowds in Liverpool’s Philharmonic, Manchester’s Apollo, and London’s Shepherd's Bush Empire.
A new single will be launched in May, and a first album is planned for later this year.
On Thursday new Galway band The Jazz Addicts will perform. Tony Higgins (drums ), Aengus Hackett (guitar ), John O’Dwyer (double bass ), and Joe Brady (saxophone ) have played in The Black Magic Big Band and the West Coast Big Band.
The group currently performs every Sunday in Massimo’s, playing the music of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey, and others.
