Galway were beaten by Cork when they last reached the All-Ireland final seven years ago on a score-line of 1-21 to 1-16, but current Galway captain Fergal Moore says this year's decider will be decided on its own merits.
"I don't think 2005 has any relevance. 2012 is 2012. What happened last year doesn't matter, and what happens next year won't matter,” he says.
"We take this year on its merits and we are in the 2012 All-Ireland final. The game hasn't been played yet. We don't know the opposition. The score is nil-all, but we will focus on our own game and we will train very hard for that game.”
However Moore says there is pressure on Galway after a seven-year wait.
"There is pressure there from the outside on the team, but the most pressure we feel is the pressure on ourselves to perform. We have targets we want to meet and some days we meet them and some days we don't. The days we do, we're happy. But the days we don't, we're not.
"We will sit down this week and analyse the areas where we are weak and need to improve. We will be looking for a huge performance for the final.”
At 30 the Turloughmore man says Galway are one step closer to their ultimate goal.
"This is what you train for. We have a young bunch of lads who are improving every day. They are very honest and they are very hard working. What they lack in experience, they make up for in enthusiasm. We won't be there to make up the numbers. We have an awful lot of improvement to do and we know that.”
"We have improved every game in the championship and we are one step closer now. We have a couple of weeks to get right for the final and we will be going all out to do that."
