Autumn/winter at the Róisín Dubh

FOLK, INDIE, pop-punk, prog-rock, singer-songwriter, and electro acts ranging from The Cast Of Cheers to Pierre Bensusan, will take to the stage of the Róisín Dubh over the coming months.

One of the first major gigs of the autumn/winter season takes place on Thursday September 13 when the magnificent Scottish folk-rock band Frightened Rabbit play. Their emotional, anthemic, and energetic mix of indie rock and Scottish folk is best heard on their wonderful 2010 album The Winter Of Mixed Drinks.

On Thursday 20, one of Ireland’s finest young bands, The Cast Of Cheers, play. Their thrilling mix of indie-pop and full of post-rock guitar riffing is best experienced

live and on stage they never disappoint.

There is a treat in store for fans of The Mars Volta and At The Drive In when a mainstay of both those bands Omar Rodriguez Lopez brings his Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group to the Róisín on Monday October 1. Expect a night of top notch prog-rock, covering all aspects Lopez’s career.

Long running Japanese pop-punk band Shonen Knife, led by vocalist Naoko Yamano, play on Thursday 11. The band’s mix of Ramones meets the Beatles sweet punk-pop has earned them a worldwide cult following

One of the great British indie bands, The Wedding Present, will play their 1991 album Seamonsters on Saturday November 3. Seamonsters was produced by Steve Albini, and Allmusic.com said of it: “The Wedding Present work best on this album when Gedge’s plaintive love songs explode into a distorted fury.”

Fans of imaginative and inventive guitar playing can look forward to the return of Pierre Bensusan on Sunday November 4. Canada’s Buck 65, who fuses intelligent hip hop with roots music, also returns on Thursday 8.

Lætitia Sadier, a key member of Franco-British Krautrockers Stereolab will play a solo show at the Róisín on Saturday 10. Then, for a big show to round off 2012, the magnificent Richard Hawley - a former member of Pulp, and a distinguished solo artist and songwriter - will take to the stage of The Black Box Theatre on Wednesday December 5.

Other shows to look out for are Declan O’Rourke (September 8 ); The Doors Alive (September 16 ); Tom Baxter (October 6 ); Finbar Furey (October 14 ); West Cork Ukulele Orchestra (October 20 ); The Mersey Beatles (October 21 ); Tom McRae (November 14 ); Scullion (November 16 ); and Damien Dempsey (December 14 ).
