Art and theatre @ Áras Éanna

AN EXHIBITION of illustrations and a play about a woman in prison for stabbing her husband, take place at the Áras Éanna Arts Centre on Inis Oírr.

Galway theatre company Truewest will stage Mary Motorhead by the award-winning writer Mark O’Halloran (Garage, Adam and Paul ) on Saturday.

From her prison cell, Mary explains her story in an attempt to get the audience to understand why she acted the way she did. Mary is played by Cora Fenton. The director is Rae Visser and the producer is John O’Dowd.

Go bhFeicfidh Tú Dán - Ó Direáin, a series of specially-commissioned drawings by Aran artist Seán Ó Flaithearta, opens this Sunday.

The drawings are a contemporary response to the lifetime work of Inis Mór artist, poet Máirtín Ó Direáin (1910-1988 ). The images were commissioned for inclusion in Na Dánta, the collected poems of Ó Direáin published by Cló Iar-Chonnacht as part of the centenary celebration of the poet’s birth.
