Cló Iar-Chonnacht writing competition

COUNTY GALWAY based publishing company Cló Iar-Chonnacht is seeking entries for its Irish-language Fiction Competition 2012.

The competition is open to new unpublished creative prose as Gaeilge in every genre, from novels to novellas and collections of short stories. Both writing for adults and for younger readers is eligible for entry. The closing date for entries is Monday September 3.

There is a prize fund of €10,000 to be divided among three winners. The first prize is €5,000; second prize is €3,000; and third prize is €2,000.

The competition is open both to published and unpublished writers. An effort will be made to pay particular attention to entries from new writers to encourage up-and-coming talent.

“Competitions can give great encouragement to writers, particularly new writers or writers who haven’t been published yet, to finish a piece of work by a certain deadline in order to enter it into the competition,” said writer Micheál Ó Conghaile, founder of Cló Iar-Chonnacht. “We hope that this competition will encourage writers to pick up their pens and get writing.”
