With the Galway Races approaching, the hunt for the right outfit for the festival has begun. Whether you are getting dressed up for Ladies’ Day or going for smart casual on the first race meeting, over the coming weeks I will be bringing you a round up of some of the latest styles hitting the stores for this racing season.
The racing season fashion is showing silhouettes that are strong, feminine, contemporary, and flattering in an array of vibrant to more demure colours, playful and elegant patterns, and statement accessories. Hemlines are longer and we are seeing a lot more style with sleeves, thick straps or cap sleeves. The bare shoulder look is an absolute no-no.
Peplum is a huge style trend this season and it will be still going strong for next year. Oasis has this beautiful blue peplum skirt that can be worn as a dress by pairing it with a cream top tucked in and a belt. Dress up this look with a statement headpiece such as this bespoke turquoise headpiece by Galway-based milliner Fiona Mangan. A summer coat would be a great choice for that look. Penney’s and Dunne’s stock knee length summer coats in cream and navy, but you could also pair it with a jacket or a coat from your current wardrobe. Keep the accessories simple and opt for a pair of classic nude shoes.
Make a statement at the racecourse with prints. This stunning floral dress by Oky Coky is a great number. The floral prints are vibrant and very feminine. A headpiece picking up the colours of the dress would complement it and give a quirky edge to it. Jackets are very popular on the racecourse and smarten up any outfit. You will be turning heads in this vibrant red dress by Kate Fearnley. Colour blocking is always a winning style choice for the races. The elegant sequin detail on the neck and pockets add personality to the dress. An equally dramatic hat or headpiece will suit the look, but keep the bag, shoes, and jewellery in a neutral colour and to a minimum.
