THE GALWAY Cathedral Recitals series of summer concerts returns next week with shows on Thursdays at 8pm. This series begins and ends with choral concerts.
The season opens on July 5 with the choir of St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, with a programme of English choral music.
Also performing will be mezzo-soprano Edel O’Brien and John O’Keeffe on July 12. Their programme includes Gorecki’s ‘O Domina Nostra’ as well as music by Messiaen and Charpentier.
Solo organ recitals this year are given by John Kitchen from Edinburgh on July 19; John Cantrell from the USA on July 26; and Korean organist Joonho Park (winner of the 2011 Dublin Organ Competition ) on August 2.
The season ends with Galway Cathedral Choir and organ scholar Robbie Carroll on August 9, performing music by Haydn and Buxtehude.
