In Pearse Stadium on Saturday evening St Michael’s take on Salthill/Knocknacarra at 5.45pm, and then Annaghdown and Micheál Breathnachs are in action at 7.30pm.
Michael’s surprised most people with their victory last weekend over Maigh Cuilinn.
They were very heavily beaten by Salthill/Knocknacarra in the first round, and it is not ideal that both clubs have to face each other again in the next full round of games.
It makes it more difficult for Gerry Hughes to rouse his Salthill players to face the same opposition again, particularly having beaten them easily the first day out.
Seamie Rabbitte, Seán Armstrong and Alan Kerins did the damage up front for the Seasiders when they met last and it will interesting to see if Peter Curran can come up with the personnel and a plan to contain them this weekend.
They had big performances last weekend from Eddie Hoare, Alan Glynn, Conor Hoctor who shot 2-1 from play, Shane Maughan (0-5, 5fs ), Jamie Downes and Frank Daly. However, they will need more of the same, and some improved displays from others around the field if they are to stop Salthill.
Annaghdown defeated NUIG to get to this stage and the Seán Ó Domhnaill managed Micheál Breathnachs beat Killkerrin/Clonberne. Toss of a coin to call the winner here. With Fiontáin Ó Curraoin back from injury, maybe the Connemara side can shade it.
