Swords to play Citóg

DUBLIN ELECTRO-pop trio Swords, whose music The Irish Times described as “neatly clipped electro-pop tunes and smart elegant hooks”, are coming to Galway.

Swords - Ian Frawley (drums ), Diane Anglim (keyboards/vocals ), Jarlath Canning (bass/sampler ) - play Citóg at The Cellar Bar underground tomorrow at 9.30pm.

The band is promoting its EP, Black Balloon, which was produced by Karl Odlum (The Frames, David Kitt, Ham Sandwich ). It reached number one in the Irish iTunes Electronic Charts and No 35 in the overall charts.

Hotpress called it “undeniably infectious”; Entertainment.ie said it “stands out from the rest of the pack, for they are a band completely unafraid to explore the sonic space and textures available to them”.

Also on the bill is Junior85, the solo project of local musician and composer Tony Higgins, who also plays drums for Dott, Grand Pocket Orchestra, and Milan Jay. His solo efforts incorporate electronic drums, dance music, and avant garde. The opening act will be Kildare instrumental band The Groovy Gloom. Admission is free.

Swords also play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh’s upstairs bar tonight at 11.45pm.
