Ballybrit man charged with city pub burglaries

A Ballybrit man charged with committing burglaries at two city centre pubs - on one occasion on Christmas Eve - has been remanded on continuing bail.

Stephen Keary (43 ) with an address at 11 Ballybrit Cottages, Ballybrit, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday charged with burglary at The Skeff, Eyre Square, on December 24, 2011, and burglary at the Cellar Bar, Eglinton Street, on October 26, 2011.

Inspector Ernie Whyte told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that the matter be dealt with summarily in the District Court and that it will be alleged that the accused went into the staff areas of the two public houses and stole items.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy accepted jurisdiction in the matter and remanded Keary on continuing bail to appear at Galway District Court again on July 2 next for election.
