International investors will now see Ireland as a safe and secure bet, says Geoghegan-Quinn

The Irish people have sent a strong statement of support for the building of a more stable Eurozone, that is according to the European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.

Speaking following the referendum on the Fiscal Treaty referendum which returned an overall ‘Yes’ vote, Commissions Geoghegan-Quinn said: "The markets and international investors will now see Ireland as a safe and secure bet. This will certainly speed up Ireland's return to the financial markets and it will give us the same benefits as other signatories to the fiscal treaty.

“A stable Eurozone will speed up the process of economic recovery in Ireland and within the European Union. Remaining an active and central member of the Eurozone is very important for maintaining employment, creating new jobs and securing more investment into Ireland. Equally, developing a positive growth agenda in Europe goes hand-in-hand with responsible budgetary housekeeping rules that are contained within the provisions of the fiscal treaty."
