The Low Anthem at the Roisin Dubh

FANS OF AMERICANA are in for a treat at the Roisin Dubh with Rhode Island band The Low Athem playing at the intimate venue on Saturday week, June 16. Formed in 1006 by Brown University students and part-time DJs Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky, the band made their mark with their 2007 debut album What the Crow Brings. Drawing on their background in classical music, they widened their instruments and sound to include everything from WWI- era pump organs to crotales (a form of antique cymbal ). With the addition of new member Jocie Adamas in 2007, the band began 2008 in remote Block Island off the coast of New England.

The stark, serene atmosphere inspired Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, which the band reissued in 2009 after signing a contract with Nonesuch Recordings. With the recruitment of multi-instrumentalist Mat Davidson that same year, the band recorded 2011’s Smart Flesh in an abandoned pasta sauce factory. Their special blend of folk, gospel and blues is not to be missed.

Tickets available online at www.roisindubh.net, from the Ticket Desk at OMG, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.
