Will you rise to the Tonabrucky Challenge?

Rathun an Chaislean Nua Hurling Club is calling on all runners, walkers and even strollers to take part in the second annual Tonabrucky Challenge on Saturday June 9 at 6pm.

Now in its second year the run will this year aim to raise money for Pieta House and the hurling club.

The race, which is Athletics Association Ireland certificate pending, and has been officially measured, will take place in the Rahoon area and will incorporate the famous Tonabrucky hill. The event will be followed by a family fun evening at the club.

The cost of entry is €20 for a single person, €30 for a family. and under 14s are free.

"This is an event that will appeal to everyone,” says Lisa Regan of Cuman Iomanaiochta Rathun an Chaislean Nua. “We are asking all runners and walkers from seasoned to beginners to take part. The 6km route will offer a challenge to everyone with a few good hills thrown into the course. There will be prizes for the first Fit for Life person home, the first man and the first woman.

“This year we are also having a Buggy Race so that parents can join in the fun with their young children. We are delighted to have Pieta House as our charity of choice this year as this is such a worthy cause," Lisa Regan says.

Registration will take place from 5pm in the clubhouse in Tonabrucky and everyone who enters will get a souvenir T-shirt. The run/walk section of the race will start at 6pm with Galway’s first buggy race starting at 6:15pm. All parents with a buggy are invited to take part in this novel and fun activity.

After the race there will be a fully catered BBQ and refreshments while the fun kicks off on the pitch with a tug of war, wheel barrow races, long puc, egg and spoon races, and several bouncing castles.
