Rathun an Chaislean Nua storm through the second round

Rathun an Chaislean Nua came through the second round of championship hurling on Sunday afternoon in Loughrea after beating Ballinderreen by 2-16 to 2-13.

The first quarter was dominated by the city side with a flurry of scores from Enda Feeney, Dermot Tarpey and David Kelly and a goal by Paddy Divilly to give Rathun a 1-6 to 0-2 point lead. However Ballinderreen responded well to score 1-3 without reply.

On the resumption Rathun scored an opportunist goal from the start when David Kelly found the back of the net. Rathun then sent over some fantastic points to give them an eight-point lead. Ballinderreen threw caution to the wind to come back within three points, but Rathun, held on for a hard-fought win.

Best for Rathun were Enda Feeney (captain ), Niall Carr, David Kelly, Tony Og Regan, Diarmaid O’Connor, Tom Nally and Colin Hanbury.
