Jarlath McDonagh calls for Yes vote

The Fiscal Compact Treaty is a promise between EU states whose currency is the euro, to support each other through times of crisis and market speculation.

This is the view of Fine Gael county councillor Jarlath McDonagh who is calling on Galway voters to support the treaty on May 31.

“If one country incurs debts that they cannot pay, the others have to step in to bail them out,” he said. “A Yes vote will protect the euro in your pocket. If we reject the treaty there is a danger Ireland could run out of money, fall victim to market speculators, and be forced into massive cutbacks and tax hikes. It must be Yes to give our country a new start and set up the recovery process.”
