The Down Syndrome Centre is urging women to donate dresses to one of Ireland’s most fashion-forward fundraisers, Buy My Dress, supported by Kellogg’s Special K. The Down Syndrome Centre hopes to raise €120,000 this year through the fundraiser, which will take place at various locations around the country on Saturday. The Galway Buy My Dress event will take place in the Hotel Meyrick on Saturday from 11am to 5pm.
This year, along with continuing to fund an existing Down syndrome liaison nurse who provides invaluable advice, support, and guidance to parents whose newborn has just been diagnosed with Down syndrome, the charity will be opening a new centre to provide much needed facilities and services necessary in the development of children born with Down syndrome.
Over the past four years, Buy My Dress has been a phenomenal success, receiving fantastic support from Irish women and celebrities. This year a selection of high calibre dresses have been donated by both international and Irish celebrities including Pixie Lott, Imelda May, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Amy Huberman, Laura Whitmore, Nina DiVito, and Glenda Gilson.
With the help of teams of volunteers who will organise each county event, the charity hopes to sell in excess of 10,000 dresses and is calling on women nationwide to donate a dress over coming weeks. Dresses can be donated at the Buy My Dress shop unit at the Galway Shopping Centre this evening (Thursday ) from 5pm to 8pm.
