John Sinclair and Howard Marks - Radical Rogues on the Road

ONE IS the former manager of the MC5 and a man about whom John Lennon wrote a song. The other is former international drug trafficker who has appeared on record sleeves by The Super Furry Animals.

They are John Sinclair and Howard Marks and they are bringing their Breathin’ Air show to the Róisín Dubh on Monday June 4 at 8pm as part of their Radical Rogues On The Road tour.

On the night the duo will regale the audience with tales from their fascinating, controversial, action packed, outlaw lives.

The title ‘Breathin’ Air’ comes from a line in John Lennon’s ‘John Sinclair’, easily the finest song on his 1972 album Sometime In New York City. The song was written in response to the jailing of Sinclair for 10 years for possession of marijuana in 1969. A major campaign to free him was organised, culminating in the John Sinclair Freedom Rally in December 1971. Three days later John was released.

Howard, a vigorous advocate for the legalisation of recreational drugs, will interview John about his own lifelong activism and how he became a figurehead for counterculture the world over.

John will discuss his recent involvement with Meltdown festival curated by Massive Attack; the launch of the Music is Revolution Foundation; his part in founding the revolutionary White Panther Party; managing the MC5; and perhaps also a little about his poetry.

This is a unique opportunity to hear the experiences of an outlaw icon who knows what it means to stand up for what you believe in.

Tickets available online at www.roisindubh.net, from the Ticket Desk at OMEGA, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.
