Ireland’s Olympic men's marathon runner, Mark Kenneally, took time out from training to launch a new athletic event in Galway, the Great Race Galway.
The event takes place on Sunday June 17 at the Galway Race Course, Ballybrit, and is open to runners of all levels.
The race starts with one lap of the racecourse and then proceeds to fast country roads for 8k and a final lap of the course for a grandstand.
Speaking at the launch Mark Kenneally said: “I am delighted to be supporting the launch of Great Race Galway - anything that encourages people to put on their runners and take part in such a worthwhile cause is great in my book.
“Being the Irish representative for the men's marathon in London 2012 is a dream come true and I am feeling really positive about the challenge that lies ahead. I am very proud to be representing my country and I am very focused on performing as well as I can in London.”
The two official charities linked with the race are Croí and the Marie Keating Foundation.
Entries are €24 or €20 for AAI members. Log onto www.greatracegalway.ie for more information.
