Monivea 5k set for June

The third annual Monivea 5k, organised by Monivea Rugby Club, takes place this year on June 10.

Launched this week, the Monivea event will be sponsored by long-time club supporters Esker Readymix.

Last year 175 runners and walkers took part and the organisers are expecting twice that number next month.

The Monivea run is unique, starting with a loop around the village green and finishing on the historic “Mass path” under towering conifer trees.  The route is flat and is split about 50/50 between asphalt roads and gravel forest roads.

The course has been measured and certified and a permit has been issued by the Athletics Association of Ireland.

In addition to the five kilometre run, organisers will hold a 1,200 metres family walk through the village and the forest immediately after the main event.  All children participating will receive medals. The entry fee for the family walk is €5 per walker.

Participants can preregister on www.runireland.com or entries will be accepted on the day.  The cost of entry to the 5k is €15.
