Visitors to Coole Park this week can enjoy history, drama, and literature for all ages as part of the ongoing Coole Winter Programme.
Today (Thursday ) Michael O’Loughlin will speak about an incident in May 1921, when Margaret Gregory was the sole survivor of an IRA ambush near Coole. Mr O'Loughlin will discuss this event and its repercussions, drawing on Yeats' poems and local newspaper reports of the time, between 8pm and 9pm.
Your Man’s Puppets will present The Legend of Lowry Lynch this Sunday from 2pm to 3pm. Your Man's Puppets is an innovative puppet theatre company which engages children and adults alike with original material and fresh interpretations of myths and legends. The Legend of Lowry Lynch is a show about friendship, differences, bullying, and hair. On the day Lowry Lynch became king something strange happened. To hide his secret, Lowry decrees hair shall be cut just once in the year. All the barbers flee the country, apart from one young boy called Seamus. Suitable for children from six years. Please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
The drama series will continue on Thursday December 4 with readings by the Gombeens Theatre Troupe. The Gombeens are currently undertaking a residency with Galway County Council where they are conducting a series of interviews within the multicultural town of Gort and in the Gaeltacht area of Connemara. In Gort their focus is on the Brazilian community.
