BVolunteers are being sought to become Galway City Street Ambassadors, an initiative which will see volunteers offering visitors tourist information and directions and distribute maps.
The Galway City Street Ambassadors is a free service that will be rolled out during the Volvo Ocean Race and continue for the rest of the summer. It is the brainchild of Galway city Labour councillor Niall McNelis and Donnacha Foley of the Galway Volunteer Centre.
Training will be provided by Galway Volunteer Centre and Fáilte Ireland and include customer relations, health and safety, and historical information on the city. Volunteers will wear a particular jacket with ‘Street Ambassador’ displayed on it.
An information event is planned for this evening at 7pm in the Rugby Room, The King’s Head, in Eyre Square. Those interested in becoming involved can also contact the Galway Volunteer Centre or at the Volunteer Fair this Saturday in the Eyre Square Centre.
