THE GREAT Seán Tyrrell will launch his new album The Walker Of The Snow with a concert in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Friday May 25 at 9pm.
The album features a set of songs Seán has often performed in concert over the years, but they have never been recorded for an album until now. Musically the album will be a stripped down, acoustic, set from the Galwegian.
The title track is based on a poem by the 19th century Dublin poet Charles Dawson Shanly, a mesmerising, ghostly tale set in Yukon, in northwestern Canada, along the border with Alaska.
The Walker Of The Snow also features Seán’s version of Tom Paxton’s ‘Can’t Help But Wonder Where I’m Bound’, as well as such standards as ‘She Moves Through The Fair’ and ‘You Are My Sunshine’.
Writer and political activist Eamonn McCann has said of the album: “No other writer or singer in Ireland would have apprehended the shadow much less made substance of this cycle of songs. This is an album to be listened to gently for the enjoyment of its gusto. It deserves the widest possible audience.”
