Clancy takes on Garrycastle

Former Galway All-Ireland football winner in 1998 and 2001 Paul Clancy has been appointed manager of beaten AIB All-Ireland club football finalists Garrycastle.

Clancy, who also won an All-Ireland club intermediate medal with Maigh Cuilinn, takes over from Anthony Cunningham.

The Galway hurling supremo enjoyed three successful years at the Garrycastle helm, during which time he led the Athlone club to a hat-trick of Westmeath SFC titles, last year's Leinster club title, and an All-Ireland final appearance which ended in defeat to Crossmaglen after a replay this year.

Clancy has built up some high quality management experience and he served as a Laois selector under Justin McNulty last season, having previously been involved with DIT in the Sigerson Cup.

He also guided the Dublin college to an All-Ireland Freshers Championship title in 2009.
