This Sunday Street Feast launches it national campaign to bring communities together in the spirit of fun and good food.
Now in its third year, the Street Feast initiative is undertaken by a group of volunteers, and is part-funded by Leargas, the national agency for youth volunteering and development, under their Youth in Action programme. The Street Feast was inspired by the British initiative, Challenge Europe, which was an environmental scheme encouraging young people to reduce their carbon footprint.
Street Feast aims for people across Ireland to host a street party in their local neighbourhood. People can attend an existing party or organise their own in their area. For those interesting their own party, there is a how-to guide on the organisation’s website. Street Feast will occur in communities across Ireland on Sunday June 17.
To launch Street Feast in Galway, there will be a pot-luck-style feast beside the Galway Market in Church Lane this Sunday May 6. Running from 1pm to 4pm, attendees are advised to bring some food and friends and even their favourite musical instrument. The Street Feast team are also seeking street performers for the event.
