Beer glorious beer at the Galway Bay Beer Festival

This Bank Holiday weekend sees the Oslo Bar and Microbrewery hosting the Brewers on the Bay Beer Festival from 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. It promises to be a celebration of craft brews and all things beer related.

Gone is the stereotype of old men with their pints of porter — beer is quickly becoming a popular alternative to wine. People are now waking up to the varied and complex flavours of the many Irish craft beers that are now on offer.

When you start getting into the artisan choices out there, you realise that there is a fantastic complement of flavours that go really well with all kinds of different foods. Try cooking with beer for a deeper flavour, or pairing your next bowl of mussels with beer (or cider ) instead of wine and the whole genre of Irish beer styles and flavours opens up.

A range of different beers will be on show from chocolate stouts to banana beers, spiced ales, and everything in between. Beer connoisseurs, beer tourists, and beer novices are all welcome.

Confirmed for the festival on Saturday and Sunday are Bay Brewery (Galway ), Carlow Brewing (Carlow ), Eight Degrees Brewing (Cork ), Franciscan Well Brewery (Cork ), Galway Hooker (Galway ), Hilden Brewery (Belfast ), Porterhouse Brewing (Dublin ), Metalman Brewing (Waterford ), Trouble Brewing (Kildare ), White Gypsy (Tipperary ), Whitewater Brewing (Down ), Tempted Cider (Antrim ) and Dungarvan Brewing.

Their @brewersonthebay twitter feed has all the news and updates.
