Flamenco dance concert at Black Box

SOLTANDO AMARRAS, an evening of traditional flamenco dance and music takes place in the Black Box Theatre on Thursday May 10 at 8pm.

Singer Olayo Giménez and guitarist Pedro Viscomi will travel to Ireland from Andalusia to join dancer/choreographer Fatima Lucia for this show, the title of which translates as ‘casting off’, which will explore the vibrant culture of the Andalusia region of Spain, which is a mixture of Islamic, Jewish, Gipsy and European music and dance styles.

Fatima Lucia, originally from Cadiz, is the leader and director of Al-Andar and has been teaching flamenco dance in Galway and Clare since 1993 when she settled in Ireland. As Al-Andar, Fatima has toured Ireland on several occasions along with various flamenco musicians and dancers from Spain. She has also toured with Sean Keane, Mairtin O’Connor, and Arty McGlynn.

As well as the Black Box show, Al-Andar will perform at the Gort Gallery Cafe on Wednesday May 9 at 8pm.
