The trial of an ex-Christian Brother charged with sexually abusing six boys in the sixties and seventies in a Galway boarding school has been adjourned until tomorrow at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The 72-year-old man pleaded not guilty to 35 counts of indecently assaulting the boys between 1967 and 1973 when they were residents at the school.
Judge Tony Hunt adjourned the trial after hearing legal argument and asked the jury of six men and six women to return on Tuesday.
Last week a man who alleges he was sexually abused in a Galway industrial school some 40 years ago pointed out a Christian Brother who is on trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court as the person who regularly assaulted him.
The man - the second of the six complainants to give evidence - told prosecuting counsel, Mr Fergal Foley BL (with Mr Eanna Mulloy SC ) that the abuse happened in the class-rooms, a storeroom and in the shower.
He said the accused would put his hand into his trousers and fondle his penis on a regular basis. This was embarrassing in the class-room because others would know what had happened.
The man told Mr Foley that the accused would remove his pyjamas in the shower area and place him naked face down across his knees "and put his hand on my 'ass' and penis" for 10-15 minutes. He said he was in 3rd to 6th class while this happened.
