Last October father-of-one Keith Connolly was involved in a road traffic accident. Sadly, the injuries Ballinderreen native Mr Connolly received resulted in the amputation of his legs. He has since begun his treatment in the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dún Laoighaire, Co Dublin, and he is making excellent progress.
Before his accident, Keith Connolly was well-known in the local area for his sterling participation in the GAA. He was a valued player and mentor, and spent much of his free time coaching juvenile hurling and camogie teams.
People in the local area have re-activated the Ballinderreen Benevolent Fund to help him. Fundraising has begun and all sums donated to the fund will be used to help Keith Connolly on the road to recovery.
The main aim of the Ballinderreen Benevolent Fund is to raise enough money in order to purchase materials and build Keith a specially adapted house tailor-made to his needs. Several fundraising events will take place throughout the year. Representatives from the Ballinderreen Benevolent Fund recently met Galway hurling board chairman Joe Byrne to discuss fundraising ideas and have received the backing of Mr Byrne and the board.
Bucket collections will take place at county championship games and all support is welcome.
