2012 hurling championship kicks off

It does not seem too long ago that Gort and captain Andy Coen claimed the county cup, but this weekend the 2012 chase for glory commences.

There is a host of games down for decision on both days.

On Saturday there are two double headers. In Athenry, Ardrahan take on Kinvara at 5pm, followed by Clarinbridge v Beagh at 6.45pm.

In Duggan Park, Kiltormer and Castlegar are in action at 5pm, with Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry v Padraig Pearses following at 6.45pm.

The fixtures for Sunday in the Salthill Hotel Senior Hurling Championship sees An Carnmore v Tommy Larkins at Loughrea at noon, followed by Craughwell v Mullagh, at 1.45pm.

Perennial favourites Portumna take on Sarsfields at Ballinasloe at 1.45pm, while at Pearse Stadium, Turloughmore are in action against Liam Mellows at 2.15pm

There is another double header in Kenny Park on Sunday with Athenry v Loughrea at 5pm, and Gort v St Thomas throwing in at 6:45pm.
