The controversial new one-way road system in Oranmore is to be reviewed by the Galway County Council, only a week after being installed.
The decision was reached after a meeting of the four Oranmore area councillors and the council engineer on Monday morning.
The councillors called for the removal of the one-way system and for the roadway to revert to its original status. The new system was put in place in last week but was the subject of a large number of complaints from local residents.
The news has been welcomed by Oranmore area Independent councillor Jim Cuddy. “All of the local area councillors are united that the one-way system has to be removed,” he said.
However he added that it will take “some time to reverse the one-way system” as the council has to engage in public consultation and advertise the changes, although the process will commence immediately.
