Johnny Moynihan to play Róisín Dubh

JOHNNY MOYNIHAN, one of the great Irish folk singer-songwriters, plays the upstairs bar of the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday April 24 at 9pm.

As one-third of Sweeney’s Men, alongside Andy Irvine and Terry Woods, Moynihan is a seminal figure in Irish folk. He introduced the use of the Greek instrument, the bouzouki, to Irish music, and his compositions, such as ‘Standing On The Shore’ were covered by Anne Briggs.

Along with The Dubliners, Sweeney’s Men was one of the most important bands in the folk-revival, paving the way for acts like Planxty and Horslips.

Later Moynihan was a member of De Dannan, The Fleadh Cowboys, and briefly Planxty. He also recorded with Anne Briggs. Today, as well as solo work, he plays American old-time music with Moonshine.

This ‘Rusted Rail presents...’ show is a chance to see a true folk legend up close and personal. Do not miss it.

Support is from The Driftwood Manor (folk singer-songwriter Eddie Keenan ). Admission is €8.
