Local Connacht Rugby players will go head-to-head with each other in a new initiative promoted by the province.
The players will feature for their local rugby clubs in a A Question of Rugby, based on the popular television programme ‘A Question of Sport’.
Galway’s two city rival clubs Corinthans and Galwegians will square up on Friday April 27 in the first in the series to see which claims the title of Connacht Rugby’s most knowledgeable club team.
Quizmasters on the opening night are Galwegian James Heaslip and veteran Corinthian Paddy Flynn and they will be asking the questions in Sue Barker style with ‘What Happened Next’, ‘Picture Board’, ‘Home or Away’, ‘Mystery Guest’ and ‘On the Buzzer’ rounds.
Connacht legend Johnny O’Connor will lead the Corinthian team, while Connacht captain Gavin Duffy heads Galwegians. The rules have been amended to allow teams to bring on subs to better their chances of winning.
Connacht commercial manager Fiona Keyes says with the 2011/12 rugby season nearing an end, this is a fun opportunity for supporters to meet and mingle with Connacht Rugby players.
Supportes also have the chance to win some signed memorabilia in a top-class raffle on the night.
The first event will be held in Monroes Live on Dominick Street, Galway with the first 500 people through the door receiving a complimentary pint of Heineken to help kick off the event. The event will be followed by two live bands.
Doors open at 9pm. Tickets for the sports night cost €10 and are available from www.monroes.ie or at the door on the night.
