Arts Festival proving to be a “massive success”

With one week down and one week to go the city continues to thrive on one of the most successful runs the Galway Arts Festival has ever seen. And things are only set to get better yet.

“It is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most successful arts festival yet,” said Galway Arts Festival press officer Gwen Sullivan speaking to Galway First on Saturday. “It has broken all sorts of records with regards to ticket sales. It has been a massive, massive success.”

But while some of the most highly anticipated shows, like Druid’s The New Electric Ballroom and Blondie live at the Festival Big Top, are long sold out, tickets are still available for some of the other great performances taking place this week. Stage performances not to be missed include Fabulous Beast’s performance of Giselle, the Tobacco Factory Theatre’s production of Mimic, and Ouroboros Theatre’s Translations. For the more musically inclined tickets are still available for shows like Nouvelle Vague and Richard Hawley, as well as for performances by Tinariwen and Mayra Andrade, and The Dandy Warhols and Ash, all playing at the Festival Big Top. For those looking for a laugh, grab a ticket for internationally-acclaimed Ed Byrne when he takes the stage at Cuba next week.

And as always numerous free events will be taking place throughout the city and include popular visual arts exhibitions by Bill Viola, Max Streicher, Joni Mitchell, Mart, and artists from Engage Art Studio. There will also be another exciting outdoor spectacle, Cirq Moustique, which will see a number of “inquisitive insects” take to the streets of Galway every afternoon from Wednesday to Friday.
