Yellow boxes to be repainted throughout the city after Mayor’s plan

The major yellow boxes throughout Galway city’s roads are to be repainted by the end of the month as part of the mayoral traffic initiative.

This is the first in a series of short term measures which were recommended as part of The Galway Transport Initiative - Engage for a Liveable City report from the Integrated Transportation Co-ordinating Group, set up last year by the Mayor of Galway Hildegarde Naughton.

The report drew on extensive on-line and face-to-face surveys with the public regarding traffic issues and infrastructure.

The yellow box repainting will form part of a new campaign called Care, Courtesy, and Common Sense. The Galway City Council is currently working with the gardai to identify priority yellow boxes to be repainted in the city in time for the start of an enforcement campaign on yellow boxes at end of April.

The measures outlined in the report will be implemented on a phased basis through working with the key stakeholders responsible for transport in the city.
