Irish celebrities to battle for Console at The Restaurant at the g Hotel charity dinner

Temperatures are set to soar in the award-winning kitchen of the g Hotel with the announcement that two well known Irish celebrities, a stunning presenter from television and a charismatic radio DJ, will attempt to cook a gourmet menu for The Restaurant at the g charity dinner which will take place on Thursday April 19. This popular event is in aid of Console, a national organisation supporting people in suicidal crisis and those bereaved by suicide.

Based on the hit RTE television series, the two Irish celebrities will leave behind their high profile day jobs for one day and don chef whites, taking on the culinary challenge of producing a delicious menu judged by a panel of leading food critics and a restaurant full of guests at the newly launched gg’s restaurant at the g Hotel. Under the experienced guidance of the award winning head chef Regis Herviaux, the celebrity ‘chefs’ will go head-to-head to produce the winning menu.

In keeping with the style of the hit TV programme, it is top secret as to the names of the celebrity ‘chefs’ until the evening of the event. TG4 presenter Loretta Ní Ghabháin is taking on the role of maitre d’ as she guides the celebrities through their menu selection and shares the culinary feedback from the critics and chef Herviaux with guests. A selection of renowned food critics including Corinna Hardgrave, food writer with the Sunday Times and Irish Tatler, and Willie Shaw of the Galway Advertiser will taste and score each dish. Combining scores from the judges and guests on the night, the celebrity chef with the most votes will win the The Restaurant at the g cookery challenge.

“We’re delighted to be organising this fantastic event for Console,” said Triona Gannon, general manager of the five-star g Hotel. “There has been strong interest and the evening promises to be an absolute treat for food lovers and a highlight of Galway’s social calendar, while also supporting the hard work of Console. The bets are now on as to who will be the celebrity chefs but their identities are under wraps until the big night.”

Having just been awarded Best Chef in Galway at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2012, head chef Regis Herviaux and his culinary team expect high standards in the kitchen and will work closely with the celebrity chefs to produce a five-star dining experience. “It’s certainly going to be a challenge for the celebrities but they have great interest in their menus and no doubt there will be a few surprises for guests on the night,” he said.

On the evening, the guests will be real diners eager to be impressed by the celebrity chefs. A limited number of tickets for the event are available, priced at €80 per person, and can be purchased directly from Console by calling 091 744 522 or 087 7978130.
