THE TERM electronic music conjures up the names Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, and images of batteries of keyboards and computers.
It seems to be a very modern music, very technological, but its origins stretch back to the late 1800s and the work of French and American inventors.
The history of electronic music will be the subject of a new exhibition, Electronik Historic by Russell Hart, which has just opened in the Eight BAR and runs until April 28.
In Electronik Historic, Hart uses a combination of archive photographs and researched texts to present a sporadic eight-part history of electronic music.
Russell Hart studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art before moving to Belfast to complete an MA in fine art. He is also a musician and is currently producing a series of new recordings for release during 2012 entitled The Third Existence.
