Crowe calls for action in Lurgan Park

Residents in Lurgan Park, Gleann Rua, and the Murrough area have enough challenges with traffic issues without other people parking close to the entrance of their estates.

This is the view of Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael J Crowe who this week met the Galway City Council’s director of services for transport, Ciarán Hayes, regarding these ongoing difficulties in Lurgan Park.

Cllr Crowe said the situation is “becoming very serious for both local residents and road users” in the area. He said the problem appears to be as a result of people attending the GMIT.

“I appreciate that parking spaces may be a difficulty for the college but it is very unfair on residents in this area. The problem needs to be resolved,” he said.

Cllr Crowe has also called for some form of traffic calming measures to be put in place.

“I would be of the view that double yellow lines should be installed,” he said, “as persons are parking too close to the roundabout. It is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident.”
